The ultimate gentleman’s desk

The average battery life of an iPhone is around 13 hours long. Whilst this appears to be enough to get you through an entire day without plugging it in, it’s not the full story. If you want to achieve this rather impressive length, you’ll regrettably be limited to no more than three texts and a short phone call, otherwise your chunk of Apple will last approximately ten minutes. There’s a reason iPhone users hold on to their charging cables like a nun her chastity.

Unlike a mobile phone though, the humble pencil is an all-together different beast. Not constricted by the drawbacks of modern technology, the average pencil holds enough graphite to draw a straight line of roughly 35 miles long, or the equivalent of 45,000 words. The pencil also has the capacity to produce outstanding works of art or exquisite works of prose, just ask Ernest Hemingway who used to write his fiction with them. The point is, pencils are at home anywhere, be that coupled with a notepad on a Caribbean beach, or behind an easel in one’s home office. They have the ability to tell stories wherever they are, much like the mimicry of a loyal budgerigar observing from the corner of one’s said office.

Speaking of offices, the home office is a room in which the gentleman takes great pride in. Every small detail is cared for and mulled over, from the carefully curated selection of paper weights, to the 21 year-old ageing in the top right hand draw of the oak desk. The latter is of course the centrepiece and must therefore be chosen with the minute precision of a fine watchmaker. For some help in this matter, here is our ultimate gentleman’s desk and what to accompany it with.
