THE MOST EXPENSIVE PRIVATE JETS IN THE WORLD

We’ve all dreamt about it. Many times. The Private Jet: it’s one of those ‘if I win the Euromillions’ optimisms. Goodbye to twiddling your thumbs in the departure lounge. Adios to retrieving battered and bruised luggage. And sayonara to no legroom, histrionic babies and food that smells like the inside of a bicycle helmet. Ta Ta minions, we’re flying private.

Hmmm… As I said, one of those fanciful hallucinations. Snapping back to reality, us ‘normals’ – workers of the 9-5 who missed the millionaire freight train – can only get into the shoes of these fortunate few through the means of Google & co. It’s only once we start drooling over these aerodynamic penthouses that we realise the true scale of what we’re missing out on (I’m buying two Euromillions tickets this week).

There are amazing planes, and then there are amazing jets. Yes, jets – as in the sky buses used to ferry hundreds of people converted into the ultimate luxury purchase for one. Here are the three most expensive and darn outrageous models cruising the skies.

THE AIRBUS A380 – $300million, , The leviathan of the lot, the A380 is the world’s largest commercial aircraft with a 525 passenger seating capacity, which, when stripped, equates to a huge amount of space to create a lavish interior. Owners include Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, a Saudi businessman, whose bespoke jet is reported to have cost around $500million.

BOEING 747-8 VIP – $153million, , Another plane we all know well, only in a slightly different format, this private form affords the owner 5,000 square feet of cabin space. Bigger than a decent-sized house, the interior design opportunities are unrivalled by anything else with wings.

BOEING 767 – $118million, , Although only a fraction of the price of the A380, this Boeing is the one that tickled the fancy of ultra rich Russian Roman Abramovich. As with his mega-yacht, you can trust his judgement when it comes to unabashed interior style. He isn’t a man to do things by halves, and on that basis, the 767 can’t be half bad to own.
