Introducing: James Bond’s new Omega timepiece

I think it’s fair to say that Spectre is the most anticipated film of the year. The fanfare surrounding the unveiling of the recent theatrical trailer has been hysterical, although this is to be expected from what is the most successful movie franchise of all time. Bond has also become known for its brand endorsements over the years, with both 007’s automobile and his watch proving to be especially lauded. We’ve seen the car he’ll be driving, now here’s the watch he’ll be wearing: the Omega Seamaster 300 “SPECTRE” Limited Edition.

The character of James Bond is a Royal Navy Commander, so it’s fitting that since Goldeneye in 1995 he’s worn an Omega Seamaster diving watch on screen. This is the latest iteration, and the very watch Daniel Craig wears throughout Spectre, which comes to cinemas nationwide on November 6th 2015. This model, limited to a run of 7,007, is a modified version of the standard Seamaster 300 that was first unveiled at last year’s Baselworld watch fair.

Differences from the standard Seamaster 300 include a bi-directional rotating bezel complete with a LiquidMetal 12-hour scale, a new “lollipop” seconds hand, an “Imperial Grey” striped NATO strap, and a 007 gun logo engraving on the bracelet’s strap holder.

Unlike the Aqua Terra James Bond watch revealed earlier this year, this new timepiece perfectly encapsulates Bond’s personal style. Classically styled and discreet, it’s smart enough to be worn with the sharpest suit, yet its rugged nature ensures it’s not too stuffy or proud. The NATO strap is a nice touch too. It’s a subtle nod to the first watch James Bond wore on screen; a Rolex Submariner complete with a similar strap in Dr No (1962).

To highlight the celebration between 007 and Omega, Daniel Craig visited the Swiss factory where all 7,007 of the new Seamasters will be produced. “I think what was so impressive was the fact that these watches are made from the ground up. You start with nothing, and then there’s suddenly a working watch. That’s the beauty of it. To see the engineering that goes into it and the legacy that goes into it, that’s what fascinated me.”
