The Best Healthy Snacks For Men

Every afternoon around 4pm in The Gentleman’s Journal office, a wave of fidgeting sweeps through our HQ, concentration begins to waver, tempers seem to rise and nails get bitten, and then all of a sudden like an angel in the darkness, someone enters the office with a bag full of snacks and peace is once again restored to the team. Sound familiar, gentlemen? If this does then maybe it is time that you, start thinking of trading in the 4pm munchies of sweets and crisps in favour of these healthy snacks to beat the work place binging….

Health Snsaks - TGJ.01

AVOID – Diet Drinks, EXCHANGE FOR – Fizzy water with a slice of lemon and/or ginger, sweet diet drinks actually confuse your body’s hunger sense, so you end up eating more.

AVOID – Sweets, EXCHANGE FOR – Dried Fruit, the sugars will satisfy the craving and the fibre slows the rate at which the sugars are absorbed, so you’ll stay fuller and for longer.

AVOID – Crisps, EXCHANGE FOR – Beef jerky, might not sound as tasty, but high in protein and low in fat and has creatine which is great for building muscle.

AVOID – Chocolate or Granola Bar, EXCHANGE FOR – Protein Bar, surprisingly filling and whey protein is one of the most easily digested proteins, but be sure to check the label and avoid those with too much sugar or trans fat.

AVOID – Snack Pots, EXCHANGE FOR – Egg & Spinach, again this is high in protein and low in fat.

AVOID – Smoothies (they are full of sugar!), EXCHANGE FOR – Cottage Cheese & Oat Cakes, the wholegrain carb and protein combination will sustain you for longer.

As a rule, you should try and stick to less than 300 calories per snack, as anything more technically counts as a meal.
