The trends you need to know about this autumn

Summer, as much as we dread the thought, is coming to an end. Autumn’s just around the corner and with it the inconsistent weather that plagues the sartorially inclined. The mavens of menswear have already had a glimpse into the forthcoming season back in January; LC:M and the international showcases prophesying what we’ll all be wearing come the end of September. Gentlemen, it’s time to start planning ahead, wardrobe wise that is. The new season collections are in and this is what you need to look out for come the fall.

SHEARLING

(Burberry AW15)

It’s been the go-to fabric of fashion during the wintery weather for a year or two now and is un-budged for autumn 2015 also. Everyone from Tom Ford to Topman Design and Hackett to Burberry Prorsum propped up jackets and coats with the lining.

CHECKS

Another key trend that has circled the style set for season after season, unfazed by fashion’s fleeting nature, is checks. The squared pattern has hit every aspect of the closet from suits to coats. Dunhill gave a nod to Soho in the 60s with layered checks whilst Tom Ford and Tiger of Sweden splashed it all over tailored overcoats.

WIDE-LEG TROUSERS

Menswear has latched onto slim line trousers like a skinny jean that refuses to be removed at the end of the day. Anything that wasn’t remotely tapered hasn’t really had a look in, until now; the fashion elite is pushing for a relaxed leg revolution. Dunhill, E. Tautz and Oliver Spencer led by example.

PINK

Our wardrobes are set to take on a touch of Barbie come the new season. A hue that came in a range of daring guises during the early-year shows, with father and son team Casely-Hayford particularly not holding back with the hot pink. Dunhill and Lou Dalton presented more wearable options with a muted tone on shirts and trousers, respectively. Of course you can always dip a toe into the trend with a shirt in a washed-out colour, you most likely already have a few hanging up.
