Wishlist: What we want this week

From an electric motorcycle to self-tying sneakers, this is what we want this week

Filled with iconic pieces from the Polo Bar, Ralph Lauren’s first restaurant in New York City, this mixologist box is the ultimate tool kit for cocktail cognoscenti. Included are equestrian-inspired barware essentials such as a hand-cut crystal decanter with sandblasted polo players, four matching double-old-fashioned glasses, and a leather book of drink recipes, as well as a silver-plated brass jigger, a bottle opener, and a nut bowl. The saddle leather carrying case is lined with signature Wexford plaid wool, and ensures that this drinks set is as gentlemanly as they come.

Matt Candler, the man behind Night Shift Motorcycles, almost failed electronics in college and, by his own admission, is not an artist. Yet he has created one of the most technically innovative and beautiful machines we’ve laid eyes on for a very long time. His bespoke, custom builds are one of a kind – not one is the same. But why electric? “Mostly because I want to make unique bikes that are fun to rid,” says Candler. “But we need to talk about getting off of oil sooner rather than later, and I think kick-ass, custom electric bikes can move the conversation forward.”

LVL simultaneously tracks your hydration, heart rate, and activity to help you optimise every workout, training set and race. It then prompts you in real-time, alerting to exactly how much fluid you need – based on current levels and sweat rates – and what type of performance boost you can expect. With a simple, clear interface providing the essential information at a glance, and with side buttons for additional input, the LVL can connect to your smartphone, sports watch, bike computer and other devices for a truly connected – and healthy – experience.

Since Back to the Future Part II, the world has yearned for self-tying trainers. Now, after many false starts and limited editions, they’re here. Nike’s new Hyperadapts promise to be the first mass released self-lacing sneakers, with each shoe containing an internal cable system made from fishing line, linked to a pressure sensor in the sole. When you slip your foot in, the cables tighten, working to “an algorithmic pressure equation,” and you can then perfect the fit using buttons in the tongue. No price has been set as of yet, but expect it to be high.

There’s nothing quite so effective as a straight razor, and this offering from Bluebeard’s Revenge – replete with polished cow-horn handle – is one of the best. Named after the traditional, ninth century cavalry sword – that has since been consigned to ceremonial duties after the First World War – this straight razor has a 6/8” carbon steel blade fashioned with a “French” point and a serrated tang/shank.

The much-anticipated first drone from GoPro has not disappointed the company’s legions of fans. Despite being able to fly up to a kilometre in the air, and travel at enviable speeds of 35 mph, the Karma’s 3-axis camera gimbal keeps everything steady, and lets users capture smooth 4K video. A gamepad-style clamshell controller is used to pilot the quad-rotored gadget, and with familiar, intuitive buttons and a more-than-big-enough 5-inch screen, you’ll never lose track of your £700 investment. The only downside? The drone only has a 20-minute battery life.

In little under a month, California-based watch and accessories brand Nixon will launch their first ever outdoors smartwatch. Built on Android Wear, Google’s smartwatch platform, and equipped with the Qualcomm SnapdragonTM Wear 2100 system-on-chip, The Mission is the world’s first ultra-rugged smartwatch. A 100 metre water-resistance rating means that the Mission will be just as at home in the water as on a mountain and, with a custom-molded, shockproof and stainless steel case and ultra-durable glass crystal and steel bezel, The Mission is tough enough to withstand the elements.
