A wine lovers’ paradise off Oxford Circus

Introducing Les 110 de Taillevent; an homage to traditional French food

A spin-off from the original 2 Michelin star restaurant in Paris, Les 110 de Taillevent brings classic French charm, impeccable service and fantastic food to Cavendish Square. It has the qualities of so many other musty old establishments, but this is negated by the huge variety of international wines, sake and champagnes they pair their dishes with. Gone is the snobby eyebrow raise if the customer doesn’t order the correct burgundy with their main, the focus here is all about the taste rather than the reputation.

The name Les 110 de Taillevent came about because they famously have 110 different wines available by the glass; a remarkable feat considering most restaurants are proud to have six or seven. From September, they will also be offering a featured monthly champagne by the glass.

Les 110 is traditional French haute cuisine through and through, and they’ve got all the classics down to a fine art. Their menu and wine list are constantly changing and adapting to suit the seasons, but if you’re looking for somewhere modern and unusual this isn’t going to blow your mind.

Expect the textbook Continental favourites cooked to perfection: the best starters included Foie-gras, steak tartare and langoustine, with Vol au Vent being their signature main. An absolute highlight was the strawberries, panna cotta and basil ice cream for dessert; a winning combination which is fresh, vibrant, and conveniently paired with their 2006 Dom Pérignon.

What really makes the experience exceptional is the huge focus on wine pairing, which dominates the menu and completes the meal. Each dish has four suggested wine pairings from vastly different price brackets, meaning you can splash out on a truly exceptional champagne, as in the case of my strawberries, or stick to a more modest glass. Special mention must be given to the 2006 Macle Château-Chalon, which our sommelier described as a spectrum of marmalade, mushrooms, pine needles and baking spices, and fully lived up to his recommendation.

For those on a relative budget, the set menu for lunch and dinner is £25 for 3 courses. If you’re really looking to splash the cash, though, Les 110 has options for you too.

The prime spot for wining and dining your discerning clients, Les 110 is central, delicious and traditional.
