Watch: How To Nail A Presentation Elon Musk Style

Presenting in front of a crowded room can turn even the most confident of people to mush. Standing up and speaking in an effort to persuade is difficult enough, without the shaking knees, trembling hands, croaking voice and persistent perspiration that nerves bring. Whether you’re pitching a business to investors, a sell to a client or data to the board, take some tips from Tesla and Space X CEO, Elon Musk.

With a net worth of nearly $12 billion and more than one potentially world-altering company under his charge, Elon Musk has been through his fair share of presentations and pitches. His recent unveiling of the Tesla Powerwall is a great example of how to get it right, gentlemen.

He’s the epitome of the clichéd cool, calm and collected. The occasional genuinely funny joke is thrown in to lighten the mood and despite shouts from the audience he never loses focus. Considering he’s pitching potentially his company’s biggest product since the Roadster, he seldom stumbles his words and recovers expertly on the single occasion his tongue gets tied.

Musk also cuts outs the jargon. He’s presenting a highly complex piece of tech that could prospectively change how the world consumes energy, yet he brings it down to a level a child could understand – without being patronising. Ultimately, he’s very obviously very well prepared. This wasn’t a roll out of bed late and rush to the keynote kind of job, it’s rehearsed and he’s left the cues at home. He knows this inside out, keeps it succinct and looks reasonably relaxed whilst he’s doing it, particularly considering the world is watching. Take note, gentlemen.
