Nobody digs really great bags as much as Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, The Creator's Louis Vuitton collection is an expansion of his deep love of brilliant bags

Earlier this year you probably saw that Tyler, The Creator had collaborated with Louis Vuitton. A jumbo (17 looks!), preppy collection comprising varsity jackets, slacks, tailor and camp collar shirts. The best bit about it all? The luggage. There is a €68,000 Courrier Lozine 110 trunk, a LV original done in Tyler's own way. There are holdalls in the classic chocolate brown, with a pastel-hued all over monogram. Matching crossbody pouches too. There's even a waffle lattice holdall, which comes with a maple syrup-themed tag, playing into Tyler's quirkiness (and love of waffle houses, we guess).

But it's no surprise that the collection goes heavy on the baggage. Tyler, the Creator (né Tyler Gregory Okonma) is as famous for his extensive carry-all collection as he is his music. The Louis Vuitton capsule, which was comissioned by LV head honcho and long-term of Tyler Pharrell Williams, feeds his consistent appetite for big bags. There's probably nobody out there today who is as mad about bags as much as Tyler.

Taking a look at this personal collection, this is all too clear. He’s got a thing for sweet debutant box bags. The sort that Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances might wear, or elsewhere Thatcher. Small in proportions, with brassy buckles. Usually from Goyard. He loves a Chanel crossbody, and has a collection of pale blue and turquoise padded CC bags, which he pairs up with prepster cardigans and his go-to loafers. He carted a big bell boy bag round at the 2020 Grammy Awards to Wes Anderson-like effect, while he carried a Louis Vuitton one in his music video for "Lumberjack". He's also the owner of one of Pharrell's LV Speedy bags, his own coming in bright red. Meanwhile at home, one Vuitton trunk from 1904 has its ripped label stuck on from when it boarded the Queen Elizabeth in 1949. Not bad, eh?

And the latest Louis Vuitton link up isn't the first instance of Tyler, the bag creator. He teamed up with Globe-Trotter, via his own brand Golf le Fleur, to create five custom bags in punchy cream and pastel colourways a couple of years back. There was a boxy, hardwood carry-round, four wheels check-in-cases and retro-vibing handled suitcases. Meanwhile through Golf he produces his own baggage, and the outpost down in Soho, London, sells bum bags stamped with the Golf logo.

Tyler's Louis Vuitton collection hits stores on 21 March.
