Winter wishlist: the perfect city breaks for every gentleman

While every gent dreams about taking two weeks off work and heading to the Bahamas, unfortunately sometimes this isn’t always a reality. Equally, no one wants to spend every weekend in their flat with little to no plans. The perfect compromise is to spend a long weekend in a city that you’ve never had the chance to explore, and somewhere that offers you everything a gentleman could possibly need – food, culture and undoubtedly brilliant nightlife. But where?

Copenhagen

While this may be a rather sweeping statement, we honestly think that Copenhagen might be one of the best cities in the world. It’s filled to the brim with incredible food, the best whisky cocktails we’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking, the most beautiful people and some of the best art we’ve ever seen. The city itself is stunning; if you like Amsterdam, you’ll love Copenhagen.

Amsterdam

Although famed for not exactly the finer things in life, Amsterdam has so much more to offer than just ‘cigarettes’ and women who aren’t your girlfriend. The city has an absolutely incredible history – more than you can really appreciate until you visit it – and has some of the best art galleries in the world. As you might imagine, the nightlife, bars and restaurants throughout the city are pretty incredible too.

Budapest

Budapest is one of the most underrated cities in the world and one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited. The city is split into two parts (another thing that not many people realise) with Buda on the west side of the river and Pest on the east. The city has an unbelievable amount to offer but is one of those places where you can walk absolutely everywhere – which you should. The rivers are amazing, the buildings beautiful and the nightlife is incredible.

Barcelona

Barcelona is one of those places that offers absolutely everything; you can spend one day sitting on the beach and pretending you’re in St Tropez and the next thing you know you can be at the Gaudi amongst some of Spain’s most famous artworks. It’s also a city where every single person is ridiculously friendly and willing to help. We would recommend Barcelona wholeheartedly – particularly if you’re a football fan.

Rome

Perhaps it’s a cliché to suggest Rome, but this list has been whittled down to a mere 5 and Rome is definitely up there. If you’re looking for somewhere to take your girlfriend, this is the place for you. As you’d imagine, the city is filled with quite literally the best culture in the world: filled to the brim with museums and absolutely incredible art. Plus, it’s Italy, so you don’t really need us to tell you how amazing the food is going to be.
