DIARY – AN EVENING IN MARK SHAND’S GIANT FOOTSTEPS

Last night saw VIPs, influencers and friends and family of the late conservationist Mark Shand gather at the beautiful Bloomsbury Square venue, B1 Victoria House, to celebrate Mark’s life and legacy.

The evening also launched the ‘In Giants’ Footsteps’ campaign – Mark’s final wish – to raise money to create a series of much needed corridors in Assam in North East India, safeguarding the future for 1,700 wild, endangered elephants.

Attended by over 600 guests, the event – hosted by Mark’s nephew Ben Elliot, Elephant Family’s CEO Ruth Powys, and Sotheby’s chairman Henry Wyndham – incorporated a theme that represented Mark’s many extraordinary adventures. Each room was inspired by his life and tracked his journeys through India, the Studio 54 era and his outstanding contribution to conservation with his small but hugely ambitious charity Elephant Family.

Fundraising elements on the night included an exclusive live auction compered by Henry Wyndham. A very special art collection had been created – each work deeply personal to Mark – with works including those by Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili, Jack Vettriano and Marc Quinn.

Attendees included TRHs Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Joseph Fiennes, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, Richard Caring and Bianca Jagger.
