Classic car of the week: 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MK III

Heirlooms usually come in the form of trinkets and jewellery, but this 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MK III is something quite special indeed.

This car has been owned by the same family for just short of 6 decades, purchased 56 years ago when the car was nearly new by Mr Marcus Green, a long-standing member of the Aston Martin Owner’s Club. Handed down to his son-in-law in 2003 as a restoration project, the car has since undergone a complete makeover and engine rebuild.

The DB2/4 MK III was built by Aston Martin between 1957 and 1959, differing from its predecessor the DB2/4 MK II with its distinctive front grille that would be worn by all future Aston Martin’s until the present day. The DB2/4 MK III was in fact the car of choice for 007 in Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger novel, but swapped for the later DB5 model in the 1964 film.
