The Ned is named after Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens — the early twentieth-century architect behind the magnificent, striking City masterpiece that now bears his name. Old Lutyens was a genius at taking traditional English styles and transforming them for more modern use, and the former Midland Bank building, down on 27 Poultry, was always a thing of utilitarian beauty. Now, of course, it is something else entirely — a breathtaking sweep of decadent, all encompassing hospitality which is a testament to the new tastes of this part of town: not simply big money and power suits; but refinement, culture, excellent food, atmosphere, and good times.
That’s a lifestyle we can get behind. This week, in collaboration with our good friends at Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin, we’re launching a competition to make the most of this historic establishment and its latest persuasion. Winners will be treated to a meal for two with Monkey 47 drinks at The Ned‘s hidden Jazz Bar, on one of six Monkey 47-sponsored evenings across the year. Legendary jazz artists — from Reuben James to Jamie Cullum — will lead proceedings, with Monkey 47 providing the liquid assets. It will be an evening to remember, in a venue of truly historic proportions.
What’s more, winners can also enjoy a luxury overnight stay at the historic 5* hotel, with all the bells and whistles and baubles that you’d hope for.
And of course, to stay at the Ned, you will need an understated and yet masculine overnight bag from a quintessentially English, luxury brand to tap into the history of the place. Luckily Aspinal of London have just the thing – the timeless Boston Bag, which comes in a decadently rich chocolate brown leather. Perfect for a weekend away, we’ve got one to giveaway to our lucky winner too.
