The Grade-II listed Little Manor is full of historic charm

Don’t let the name fool you – there’s not very much about Little Manor that could be described as little. Situated within nine acres of lush Oxfordshire countryside, the Grade II-listed house spans more than 10,000 square feet so there’s no need to worry about having space to entertain – regardless of how opulent your usual house parties are.

Built as a rectory in 1696, the traditional William and Mary style home is offered for sale by Knight Frank and is situated in the village of Tackley, around nine miles from Oxford city centre. Spanning three floors, in the main home you’ll find seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, a large open plan kitchen/breakfast room, four reception rooms (including a cosy living room, formal dining room, library and drawing room), a study, flower room and wine cellar.

Extensive – and sensitive – restorations by the current owners have been undertaken to modernise the home’s interiors while retaining a host of period features, including the Gothic Revival architecture of a former chapel and Georgian detailing throughout.

Elsewhere, a tennis court, squash court, all-weather cricket nets, heated outdoor swimming pool and paddocks with stables make this the ideal home for those with a love of the outdoors. There’s also a converted barn for storing gardening equipment and machinery while the vast manicured gardens offer plenty of scope for long walks and al fresco entertaining.

Thanks to its location, Little Manor also offers the best of both worlds for busy city workers looking to escape to the country. With trains from Marylebone to Oxford taking less than an hour, we can’t think of anywhere we’d rather come home to at the end of a long day.
