Just because your locks are a bit thin on top doesn’t mean you should give up on your barnet altogether. Why? Because even though there aren’t many quick remedies that’ll reverse the shedding, there are at least a few solutions and products which will add some much-needed volume and definition to your hair.
To give you the best chance of fighting the recede, we’ve spoken to Jonny Harris of The Belgravia Centre, one of the UK’s leading hair loss clinics, in order to find out what dome-friendly habits you should adopt right now. You can thank us later, gents.
Run towards a bigger barnet
The issue: “Most people are aware of the links between stress and hair loss, but many don’t know that this isn’t simply confined to people who feel stressed out. Stress comes in many forms – not getting enough sleep, smoking and obesity. These can cause the body to divert resources away from non-critical functions, including the hair growth cycle.”
The solution: “The best way to avoid hair loss from these types of issues is to maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, rest and a balanced diet.”
GJ recommends: Curating the perfect gym ensemble that’ll make you want to pound the pavement.

Wash away the anxiety
The issue: “If you start to notice more hair falling out in the shower, don’t be tempted to stop washing your hair or wash it less often. We all lose around 100 hairs per day as a normal part of hair growth. These shed hairs need to go somewhere and though it may seem that you’re losing more hair when washing or brushing it, it may simply be these falling to the ground.”
The solution: “We recommend washing your hair a minimum of once or twice a week in order to keep the scalp clean and healthy. Thinning hair also looks fuller when it’s freshly washed.”
GJ recommends: Either a volumising shampoo (this will, as expected, give more definition to your coiffure) or a light thickening product that’ll plump the hair and stop it from falling flat. This trio of goods will do the job.

Style it out
The issue: “Wet-look products can cause the hair to look thinner by exposing more of the scalp.”
The solution: “There are certain hairstyles and concealer products, such as microfibres, that can be used to help hide a receding hairline or thinning crown.”
GJ recommends: A light, matte product in order to give your hair a fuller look. It won’t add any extra weight and will avoid clumping strands together (something that exposes balder areas).
