The last minute gentleman’s gift guide under £30

There’s the rush, the stress and then the eventual pure resentment of Christmas music, yet every single year I leave my Christmas shop to the last minute. Every single year I fail to learn my lesson and evidently by the throng of people, I’m not alone in this.

December is a busy month and finding the time to devote to depleting my bank account for the sake of my loved ones is a mission in itself. So I make like an ostrich and bury my head in the sand until the twenty-third or fourth and do Santa’s job for him in one swoop. I like to think in the years I’ve been doing this I’ve become accustomed to picking up a well-chosen present during the festive equivalent of squeaky bum time. It’s by no means a pleasant retail experience but it gets the job done and the family are none the wiser.

This is the last minute gift guide that won’t leave you broke by New Year’s:

For the sartorially inclined:

The man who never looks anything less than immaculate, even at Christmas lunch where he puts you all to shame. A full-size umbrella will always be appreciated to keep his suit out of the rain and look great even when the precipitation has surrendered.

For the country bumpkin:

The rural climate has more of a chill about it than a city locale. Keep your country-loving cousin on-point when he’s out shooting or walking the dogs with a lambswool scarf from heritage mill Johnstons of Elgin.

For the geek:

What to get your weird younger brother or relative you never know what to buy for. A miniature drone should do the treat. The toy of the year by a long distance, this quadcopter will keep them entertained for hours.

For the hipster:

For the black-sheep of the family, the one who’s a little more roguish than the rest of you. A collection from Derm Ink will be much used by any tattoo fan over the year to come. Engineered to protect and heal recently inked skin, it’s ideal for anyone who loves the needle.

For the drinker:

Nothing’s worse than a watered down whisky, yet few things are refreshing than a tipple on the rocks. Solve the issue with some stylish whiskey-stones. They’ll keep their poison cold, but without the melting ice that ruins an otherwise perfect dram.

Sparq Whiskey Stones, Set of 4, £12.00

For the lady:

Girlfriend’s sister, brother’s girlfriend, cousin; purchasing a welcome gift for a woman who you’re not particularly t0 close is no easy feat. Many of the usual avenues are closed off due to the nature of your relationship and although cosmetics is a tricky one, it’s also the safest route – just don’t plump for a gift set from your local Boots. Look for something that is more of a treat than an everyday essential, a lotion, moisturiser or bath soak is more thoughtful than a shower gel for example.
