Yacht of the Week: Nero

Nero. A name with all the strength, influence and impact of the Roman ruler, which is particularly befitting of this yacht. The Nero is a modern classic, reminiscent of a beautiful bygone era, and our yacht of the week.

Inspired by the past

The Nero is inspired by the Corsair series of yachts that belonged to dominant financier, J.P Morgan, in the early part of the 20th century. Looking back to that time, both the interior and exterior of the yacht beautifully pay homage to the atmosphere of the period.

Let’s get down to numbers

At just over 90m, the Nero is one of the world’s largest luxury motor yachts. Its six cabins can house 12 guests and it usually runs with 20 crew members, and that’s not including Nelson, the ship’s cat. You can travel the world on one tank of fuel in the behemoth, its maximum speed of 16.5 knots and her range is in excess of 5200 nautical miles at 12 knots. Not only that, she was named the Best Motor Yacht over 75m at the 2009 Showboats International Awards.

Luxury interiors

The Nero’s interiors are fitted with raised and fielded wood panels, creating a classic look throughout the yacht. The many curved panels and lobbies of ash and limed oak panelling really do make you feel like you’re in the decadent era of the 20th century. The owner’s cabin is essentially a duplex apartment, complete with a luxury stateroom and his and hers bathrooms.

A playground at sea

Nero’s lovely boarding platform provides a launchpad for its five jet skis, including a Seadoo 3D DI and a two-seater Yamaha GP1300R. If that’s not enough for you, it also comes with two Seabob underwater devices that will pull swimmers along at up to 20kph. For some on-deck fun, there’s a swimming pool and jacuzzi, complemented by four main sunbathing areas.

Wonderful tonight

The Nero really comes into her own in the evening, when the interior and exterior lights work in unison to deliver a wonderfully subtle and atmospheric experience. She really is a beauty.
