5 beautiful beaches to bask on this summer

The onset of a wet summer in London is sure to be stirring daydreams of an escape to far-flung sandy paradise. There aren’t many times when you come across a beach that ticks all the boxes, but they do exist, and we’ve found them for you.

KAPUTAS BEACH in TURKEY

Set in the northernmost tip of The Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is the epitome of seclusion, relaxation and romance. This barefoot paradise is so remote from the rest of Australia, that you will be forced to unplug yourself from your busy life the minute you set foot on its shores – especially with its no-WiFi, no-TV and no-phone-reception policy. The powdery beaches open out to a sea of rainbow-hued corals, fishes, tortoises and, if you’re lucky, whales. There are 24 beaches and over 30 dive sites to explore just off the island, all accessible by boat.

ANSE VICTORIN in the SEYCHELLES

Possibly the most photographed islands in the world, the Seychelles are home to many superb beaches. The best are the most exclusive, sandy strips like Anse Victorin, set on the north east side of Fregate Island. This tropical heaven stands out for its shimmery granite cliffs, rows of coconut palm trees and shallow turquoise waters. Don’t be surprised if you run into The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing in the cabana next to yours; it’s their chosen holiday retreat.

NAVAGIO in ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE

If you ever tire of the cats and white architecture of Santorini, the next best destination in Greece is Navagio beach on the island of Zakynthos. Home to some of the world’s bluest waters and the resting place of a rusty shipwreck, this beach, at the base of a steep white cliff and accessible only by boat, will ignite your inner-explorer.

PRAIA DOS CARNEIROS in TAMANDARE, BRAZIL, , A blissfully deserted beach set on the southern coast of Pernambuco in Brazil, Praia dos Carneiros is as postcard-worthy as it looks. With a fresh water river on one side and a balmy sea on the other, the inhabitants of this small island have plenty of options for sunbathing. A pristine white church surrounded by coconut palms and turquoise water sits behind the beach, alongside the best in local gastronomy.
