The New Audi RS6 Avant

Yes it’s here, the ultimate station wagon, the car that made having kids that little bit easier.

The third generation RS6 has a lot to live up to, so when we were told that it was less powerful than the old one, we were in a state of shock. However fear not as this is now normal, we saw Bentley do this earlier in the year with the release of the new Bentley GT.

The new RS6 features a twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8, the same that is used in the Bentley and the S8. Audi have tweaked it to produce 552bhp and 518lb ft of torque. Despite the drop in horse power the new RS6 will accelerate from 0-62 in 3.9 seconds making it 0.7 tenths quicker.

The top speed is limited to 155mph, but can be raised to 189mph with the Dynamic plus pack, even then it’s still limited. All this and Audi still reckon it will do 28 mpg. This economy and speed is mainly due to the fact that it is 100kg lighter than its predecessor.

Other features include and eight-speed tiptronic transmission, quattro all-wheel drive, a choice of adaptive air or sport suspension, and optional mammoth carbon fibre ceramic brakes (you’ll be needing them).

In the cockpit expect all the usual RS logo’s scattered around the place, leather sports seats and a MMI touch-screen interface.

As if this car could get any better, but it seems like it just did. The new Audi RS6 goes on sale next summer with a price tag of £77,000. We can’t wait.
