Powder Heaven – Yellowstone Ski Lodge

Yellowstone Ski Lodge is located high above the village of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise in the French Alps. Whilst you may not have heard of this small resort, this mountain retreat won’t stay a secret for long. With breathtaking views and 1000m long ski slopes and amazing off-piste terrain, St Foy literally has it all. However, the best part comes with regards to queuing for ski lifts – you don’t have to. Unlike its very close neighbour, the en vogue Val d’Isère, whose ski lift queues during peak periods can take up to 40 minutes, St Foy offers you the chance to ski all day without the hassle and frustrations that has become so familiar to so many of us. The resort is only moments away from the well known Val d’Isère, Tignes and La Rosière however, which offers the opportunity to lunch in Italy also.

The Lodge combines traditional features and modern luxury to spectacular effect. The stylish open-plan main living space includes a large open fire surrounded by soft, big sumptuous woollen sofas and a dining table fit for a banquet. You can step out of this room onto a charming terrace with unbelievable 180 degree uninterrupted views of the valley. Each of the lodge’s six en suite bedrooms are spacious, strikingly individual and the epitome of luxury. Such a lodge in the trendier resorts would likely be double the price and probably wouldn’t have nearly as much attention to detail and natural charm.

Yellowstone has its own unique wellness area, offering a Hammam, Jacuzzi, gym and massage room. Massages, reflexology, personal trainers and more can be arranged upon your request. There is no better place to relax after a day on the slopes before heading back to your room to get ready for dinner.

Yellowstone have thought about every aspect of a guest’s stay. With your chauffeur, a highly qualified chef and two chalet girls, you can be sure the service won’t fall short. The chef will prepare you a tailor made menu of breakfast, afternoon tea, canapés and a three-course dinner during your stay. Dinners at the chalet are certainly memorable, as guests can enjoy delicious canapés and drinks near the roaring fire, before sitting down at the huge long table to enjoy more beautiful food and superb wine.

For those more adventurous skiers, Yellowstone offers the one-off opportunity to explore the valley with ski guide Marianne Brechu (a former French downhill ski racer and free ride champion). Whilst St Foy has slopes for all levels, there’s also some off-piste skiing that is second-to-none and due to the relatively unknown nature of the resort, much of the off piste is untouched powder heaven.

Yellowstone is the best kept secret of the Alps. For those fed up with spending half the day queuing for a ski lift or having to constantly dodge other skiers on the slopes, love utter luxury and truly want a holiday where they can relax, look no further, Yellowstone has it all.
