The best spring suits under £500

The UK has been awash with a wave of warm weather this week, and the trend is set to continue. Whilst this is undoubtedly great news, it does mean that us sartorially inclined gents are going to have to fork out on new gear earlier than planned. Although Oscar Wilde nailed it when he said “fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months”, there is a method to our madness.

Warmer weather means a move to lighter fabrics for breathability, and less sombre colours for mental stability. There’s only so much black one can wear all year round, after all. As always, it is possible to stay classy without breaking the bank too, so here are the best spring suits under £500.

UNIQLO

spring suit - TGJ.04

Uniqlo’s first foray into suiting is a winner. Made from a feather-light washed cotton, the jacket is completely unstructured, meaning you’ll stay cool and comfortable in the heat. The trousers have been given a similar treatment and feature a centre crease and a tapered leg, making them a smart yet versatile separates option.

REISS

spring suit - TGJ.03

Made from pure cotton, this navy suit is arguably all you need this spring/summer. Its notch lapels, two-button closure and flap pockets are all-classic, and its soft structure ensures it’s as appropriate for the 9-5 as it is for the first date.

COS

spring suit - TGJ.02

For a suit to keep you genuinely cool as the heat rises, linen is the way forward. The main benefits of having an unstructured suit are the casual nonchalance they exude, as well as their supreme comfort. This Cos two-piece is just that and features a tailored slim fit as well as a neutral grey shade.

, The subtle chalk stripe on this 100% linen suit, combined with its contemporary slim fit, makes it stand out for all the right reasons. Cut trim through the sleeves and featuring high arm-holes, it has a distinctly Italian feel to it that’s backed up by the lightly padded shoulders, double side vents and slightly wider lapels.

CORDINGS

spring suit - TGJ.01

In terms of classic menswear pieces, the navy suits trumps all. Made by country outfitters, Cordings, this example can be worn year-round, but thanks to its light 10oz sharkskin wool and half canvas construction, it lends itself well to spring.
