Gentlemen’s wristwear for under £150

The realms of watches are diverse, yet overwhelmingly saturated. For somebody looking to purchase their first watch it can be a daunting experience, and depending on budget one could spend hours choosing between chronographs and divers, or annual calendars and tourbillons. Life can be simpler though, and for little over £100 British brand Shore Projects offer perhaps the perfect solution.

Designed in Britain, Shore Projects produce beautifully simple, classic and above all, affordable wristwatches. Recognising that there’s a market for pared-back, functional design, they took to the British seaside for inspiration, christening each one of their watches after popular resorts across the Isles.

The recipe for a day at the beach is a simple one; give us some sun, sea, sand and ice cream and we’d be more than happy. Shore Projects have adopted this very ethos and it works just as well. Their watches are time only, meaning they negate any complications i.e date windows and seconds hands. This is just part of their charm though. There is only one watch design too, yet this doesn’t limit the customisation options.

Shore Project watches are split up into two lines; Project 1 and Project 2.

The former boast modest black or white faces with either silver or gold-coloured cases. The hands contrast against the dials for an interesting juxtaposition.

Project 2 is its metallic sibling, featuring gold, PVD black, rose gold or silver options with matching faces.

The best thing about Shore Projects though is not the minimalistic design or the fact they are designed in Britain. Each and every watch can be paired with a multitude of strap choices, ranging from stainless steel mesh to Italian leather, and durable nylon to playful polka dot – perhaps for the gentlewoman in your life. Each strap is constructed with the brand’s innovative quick-change mechanism too, so you can swap them over in an instant depending on your outfit or mood.

The Shore Projects watch has clearly taken its inspiration from dress watches of the past, with its pencil-shaped hands, applied hour markers and slim 39mm case. Its versatile nature means it can be worn daily, and thanks to its rugged build quality, this is a genuine possibility. It’s made from either silver or gold-plated stainless steel and is water resistant to 100 meters. Powered by a Miyota quartz movement, both Project 1 and Project 2 watches are incredibly accurate, so whether you’re heading to the boardroom or the bar, you won’t be late.
