Power – Mercedes GLA Concept

Mercedes it seems have been at the back of the pack when it comes to the small premium SUV market. Audi have their Q5, BMW their X3 and more recently Land Rover with the Evoque, all of which have been tremendously successful, especially with the yummy mummy set as they find them much easier to park than a Range Rover or Volvo XC90.

So, it came as no surprise when Mercedes released the GLA concept car last week, and from our first impressions, it was worth the wait. With its looks similar to those of the new A and B classes, this compact SUV looks the part with its roof spoiler and 20-inch wheels. It may be smaller than its big brother, but it certainly has more attitude. Although it’s only in concept form, it is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine matched by a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Further more it features the Mercedes-Benz 4 MATIC all-wheel drive system. Inside it’s good looks continue with soft leather complete with galvanised aluminium finishing.

The main feature that has got the whole motor world talking is the laser-beam projector headlamps, which apart from helping you drive at night, also double up as projectors, putting pretty much any image on to a flat surface. Movie nights will never be the same again. mercedes.com
