The Pick: The most iconic men’s bangle of all time

For as long as humans have walked the earth, they have worn jewellery as a form of communication, creating a visual language with which to express themselves. In ancient Africa, craftsmen would braid the thick, coarse hair of an elephants tail to form a trophy that stood as evidence of a hunter-warrior’s daring and skill. Today, that design remains highly-sought after, still worn as an emblem of many things. Reinterpreting it for the gentleman of today, master sculptor Patrick Mavros has replaced the hair with silver, forming a visually arresting design of intricate sliding knots and a unique double bend ‘medallion’. Distinctly masculine, the design acknowledges the craftsmanship and values handed down to us over the ages – it is jewellery that is modern, yet demonstrates continuity with our ancient past.
