Music – Tom Odell

If you haven’t yet heard of Tom Odell, don’t worry because you soon will. Tom is this years winner of the prestigious BRITs Critics Choice award, being the first ever boy to win. Previous winners include music greats such as Emeli Sande, Jessie J, Florence Welch and Adele.

This Chichester born music sensation studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music and counts Lily Cooper (nee Allen) as his mentor, who offered to help after they met at a gig. They attended this years BRITs together and watch the likes of One Direction and Mumford and Sons perform.

If he wasn’t busy enough this week, on Monday Christopher Bailey chose him to perform at the Burberry AW13 show, which was not only being live streamed all over the world, but was also the highlight of London Fashion Week itself. He performed a spellbinding performance of his new single “Hold Me”.

Tom’s voice is raw, new and pretty special, so it’s hard to compare him to anyone, however he counts his influences as Elton John, Bob Dylan and David Bowie, who’s music he describes as inexplicable and thought provoking, which is exactly what we say about his own music.

If there is one Album you buy this year, make it this one, an exceptional and extraordinary British talent.

Tom’s debut album Long Way Down is released on April 15. His debut single Hold Me will be released on April 1. Pre-order now at tomodell.com
