Iconic – The Shamrock V Charter Yacht

The Shamrock V is arguably part of the most beautiful and famous yacht class in the world, the J Class. Built in 1930 Shamrock V represents the best of 1930’s glamour with its timeless design and stunning looks. However these yachts weren’t built to cruise the Riviera, they were built for racing.

The yacht was built for Sir Thomas Lipton (tea) and designed by Charles Nicholson, today it is the only wooden J Class that remains. It was built to take on Harold S Vanderbilt’s yacht Enterprise. However it didn’t stand a chance as Shamrock V was a wooden yacht with a wooden mast and Enterprise boosted the latest technologies of the day, including a dodecagonal duraluminum mast.

Today you can charter this stunning yacht to relive a bit of 1930’s glamour. It may not be the newest, biggest and most shiny yacht around, however if you turn up in St Tropez in this, you will be the envy of every man. To put it simply, a man driving an old Aston Martin always looks better than a man driving a new one. It just shows pure class, something which money can’t buy.
