Hardy Amies release monarchical AW14 Collection

Hardy Amies is a favourite of The Gentleman’s Journal, largely because of their ability to perfectly fuse Savile Row tradition with a distinctly modern aesthetic. By only hinting at seasonal trends they manage to remain completely and utterly timeless in practically every collection they release. For AW14 of course, things are no different.

If it wasn’t clear before, checks are big news for AW14. They form a large part of this collection, coming in trouser, shirt and suit form and provide a great anchor for each look to be based around. The collection demonstrates perfectly how checks can subtly be added to your wardrobe, especially in the grey wool trousers, which will inject life into any formal ensemble. For more of a statement though, the blue Prince of Wales suit does the job perfectly, especially when combined with the equally monarchical Royal blue, single-breasted mac.

Speaking of outerwear, Hardy Amies have really outdone themselves this season. The double-breasted overcoats have statement peak lapels, oversized front pockets and moderately padded shoulders, which give the wearer a masculine, dominant appearance. When worn over a suit they create a classic look that will never go out of style, and are finished off beautifully by the leather totes and holdalls, further proof that every gentleman should invest in a quality luxury luggage upgrade.

It’s not all formalwear though, as Hardy Amies have produced a number of key pieces, which could easily form the basis of your autumn/winter casual wardrobe. The faded electric blue field jacket has been expertly tailored, boasting a minimal design that plays to the strength of this classic garment, without overplaying it. Here, it’s paired with a pair of dark denim jeans and brogues, which we all know are essential pieces that every man should own, but it could just as easily pair with chinos and loafers, transitioning effortlessly through the seasons.
