Gieves and Hawkes takes to the Highlands for aw14
When Gieves and Hawkes release their seasonal campaigns, it’s always big news. For autumn/winter 2014 it’s no different and, having trekked up to the Scottish highlands for inspiration, the boys at No. 1 Savile Row really aren’t holding back.
A masterclass in textural variation, the suiting on offer in Gieves and Hawkes AW14 collection is nothing short of superb. Rich tweeds, heavy wools and grey flannels provide the crux of what’s on offer, as do the rich shades of brown and navy. They’ve perfectly executed the powerful overcoat trend that is a hot topic for AW14, too. With broad, heavily-padded shoulders and wide lapels, they are every inch the classic statement they should be and will finish off your seasonal suiting game with aplomb. Elsewhere, the double breasted suit makes a strong appearance, as does the colour green which, as we called out in our Gentleman’s Guide to Autumn Trends article, is going to be massive in the coming months.
For something even more extravagant though, the brown double-breasted overcoat with fur peak-lapels is a regal garment, and would work perfectly with an alternative black tie ensemble for the upcoming festive period. The photographs that form the AW14 collection are just as glorious too, and the landscape perfectly complements the looks shown. Jason Basmajian, creative director of Gieves & Hawkes said, ‘We loved the scale and tones of the landscape in Scotland. There was something very masculine and romantic about the tough and remote highland location. The textures of the collection – urban tweeds, rich Donegals and grey flannel – almost formed part of the landscape as the shoot progressed’.
We agree, but we can’t wait to see them on Savile Row, where they’ll stand out for all the right reasons.
