Classic Car of the Week: Ferrari 288 GTO

Proudly sporting the name of the legendary 250 GTO of the early 1960s – now one of the most expensive cars in the world – the 288 GTO was arguably one of Enzo Ferrari’s greatest automotive achievements. Announced in 1983 and launched at the Geneva motor show the following year, the car was developed to satisfy the 200 until build requirement for homologation purposes, enabling the GTO to take part in Group ‘B’ rally competitions.

Due to a change in regulations, Group ‘B’ was abandoned in 1986 leaving the GTO with no series in which to compete. Thankfully, as a result of the car’s favourable reception on launch, the planned production run of 200 units had already been sold, securing the 288 GTO’s future as a race car for the road. The production run was later increased to 272 to meet the substantial demand.

With just under 21,000 miles on the clock, this particular car was first registered in Milan before it moved to the UK in 1998. In June of that year the car was fully re-painted and underwent an extensive interior re-trim at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.

This car is being offered for sale by H.R Owen Classic Cars. Click here for more details. Guide Price: £2,400,000
