British Polo Day China

This weekend saw an 800 strong crowd turn out to British Polo Day China at the glamorous Tang Polo Club in Beijing. Hosted by Mr Shilai Liu (China’s best polo player), the weekends proceedings were the perfect prelude to the forthcoming China Open Polo Tournament.

Presented by Land Rover, society figures and VIP guests alike arrived in chauffeured Land Rovers before being greeted by Champagne Tattinger reception. After a highly entertaining Brompton Bicycle Polo Match, the crowds took their seats pitch-side to enjoy a day of fast-paced and highly entertaining polo. The Hackett Cup (Hackett British Exiles v The InterContinental Financial Street BCC) saw the home team take the cup after a thrilling 11-6 win.

After a suitably British spot of afternoon tea, it was onto The Land Rover Trophy (Pond Mobile British Schools v Royal Salute Tang Polo Club), with Royal Salute Tang Polo Club taking home the win with a close 6-4 victory.

The official prize-giving saw a suitably dapper Jeremy Hackett present the eponymous Hackett Cup to the winning InterContinental Financial Street BCC. The highly sought-after Holland & Holland ‘Shot of the Day’ was presented by John Stevenson to Diego Gomez for his impressive offside backhander. The Hackett London ‘Best Playing Pony’ went to Tinto. Rounding off the day in style, guests joined Royal Salute Brand Ambassador, Murray Lang in a traditional Royal Salute Scotch Whisky toast to the victorious teams.

As guests bid farewell to the day, it was only right that the occasion was marked with a truly authentic Argentinian asado and luxurious after-party which (as with all BPD events) continued very late into the night in the Royal Salute VIP area.
