The coolest airports in the world

Whilst airports generally aren’t our favourite places to while away the hours, it helps if they look the part. Giving architects the chance to flex their muscles, airports can be incredible displays of engineering and the terminals are often some of the biggest buildings on the planet. These are the coolest airports in the world.

ADOLFO SUAREZ MADRID-BARAJAS AIRPORT – MADRID, SPAIN

airport - TGJ.01

With one of the largest terminals in the world, Madrid Airport takes up 760,000 square metres, but it’s not just the vast space that impresses us. The unique roof allows plenty of natural light to seep in and the general laid-back atmosphere is both welcoming and relaxing after a long flight.

SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT – SINGAPORE

TENZING-HILLARY AIRPORT, NEPAL

, The airport has been named the most dangerous in the world, meaning it’s also the coolest. Lacking a surveillance tower or radar abilities, this ‘airport’ consists of a single strip of 460 metre tarmac on the edge of a cliff, which drops off nearly 10,000 feet at the end. It’s a favourite of travellers looking to trek the Everest region due to its proximity, yet it’s not recommended for those afraid of heights.
