Cars – Tesla Model S Arrives in the UK

There are no two ways about it. Tesla is redefining the car as we know it. They are at the forefront of the electric car movement and, with the release of the Model S, they have cemented their place as innovators and forward-thinking automotive pioneers.

Tesla first came to the public’s attention with their Roadster model, back in 2008. It was one of the world’s first all-electric road cars and, with it’s highly capable performance and contemporary styling, it became an instant hit. Up to this point, electric cars were shunned for being uninspiring, sluggish and impractical, but the Tesla Roadster demonstrated just how exciting they could be, and the possibilities of what lied ahead in the future was a thrilling prospect for petrolheads and technology enthusiasts alike.

The Model S builds on the foundations laid out by the Roadster and, now that the first right hand drive cars have been delivered in the UK, we can expect to see a whole lot more of the vehicle that critics are calling the car of the future. Indeed, the Model S is so advanced that it makes its rivals look practically ancient. It’s luxury in every sense of the word, and with its driver-focussed, leather clad interior it’s a truly enjoyable place to be. Its 17-inch touchscreen display dominates proceedings, ensuring you stay connected at all times, not only to the Internet but also to vital information about how the car is performing.

Of course, it is technology that defines this car, and Tesla have gone all out in their aim to deliver a truly usable electric car that performs with the best of them, but more importantly lasts as long as possible. Three battery options are available, with the smaller 60kWh package boasting a range of 242 miles. The top of the range 85 kWh Performance pack extends to 312 miles though, and with an instantaneous punch of 469bhp able to be delivered at the drop of a hat, the Tesla Model S can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds. This is true supercar rivalling ability, and with zero road tax and exemption from the London Congestion Charge, the Model S is a unique machine that is raising the bar in more ways than one.
