British Polo Day Charity Cup 2014

Kicking off a number of quintessential summertime events, the British Polo Day was a resounding success, welcoming over 800 VIP guests, fans and picnickers to the stately Black Bears private estate and polo ground in Henley-on-Thames.

Plenty of thrilling on the pitch action took place, much to the delight of the many excited fans that descended upon the event. A number of elite teams, including the Royal Salute British Exiles Atlantic Polo Team and InterContinental London Park Lane Commonwealth Team, locked horns in bouts that will go down as some of the best polo to ever take place at the annual event.

Of course, as a social as well as a sporting event, British Polo Day featured plenty of off-pitch entertainment in the form of champagne, cocktails and, during the second match of the day, afternoon tea. There were a number of VIPs in attendance including His Highness Gaj Singh II The Maharaja of Marwar-Jodhpur, Lord Frederick Windsor, Duke of Argyll, Lord Archer, Lord Guthrie, Eve Branson, Carol Woolton, the Marchioness of Milford-Haven and Viscount Melville.

Despite the sporting action and social prowess of the event, arguably the most impressive part of the day was the astounding $310,504 raised for charity. Showcasing the philanthropic nature of the affair, this large sum will be distributed between a total of six charities, so along with the victors of the polo, everyone’s a winner.
