The 10 coolest baths in the world (with insane views)

There’s something about baths that I’ve always found a little, erm, odd. Let’s be honest, you’re basically spending half an hour wallowing in the filth that fell off you in the first five minutes. Something seems a little contradictory, like drying your hair with a hose.

But then I visited Angama Mara in Kenya. The bath overlooked the endless plains of the Mara Triangle, where giraffe browsed balanite trees and herds of wildebeest stretched as far as the eye could see. Birds of all shapes and sizes darted through the warm air metres from the window, and dik dik grazed so close that I could hear the grass shoots being ripped from the ground. I was overcome with an urge to run the taps and soak in the view while soaking myself.

It dawned on me that, filth or no filth, I have nothing against taking a bath, I’ve simply been taking them in the all the wrong places. And they don’t get better than these.

Angama Mara Lodge, Kenya

Angama 2015-30

High-design is not a marque usually associated with safari. But in Angama Mara, a two-camp, 30-tent lodge seemingly suspended in mid-air, the opus of Steve and Nicky Fitzgerald – renowned names in the industry, tempted out of retirement for this project – the script has been re-written. It was on this exact spot that several of the Out of Africa scenes were filmed, however there is nothing 80s about this setup – the design is meticulous, enhancing guests’ stay at every turn, befitting of such a unique location. Make no mistake, this is serious off-the-beaten-track luxury.
