3 reasons why Aston Martin’s DB11 is the perfect car

We’ve been waiting for Aston Martin to make a dramatic entrance since the DB9 debuted in 2003, and this week we got it. The marque has done it again: Aston has blurred the line between art and function. Every time the newest DB rolls off the production line, jaws have to be picked up off the floor – excited murmurs prior to launch avalanche into One Direction fan-esque screams as the iteration is unveiled.

Just look at the DB10, for example – it is, in every sense, a masterpiece of engineering. It suits Bond perfectly. Although, in the scale of best-looking Astons ever, it has to be disqualified, as only one has been sold to a member of public, which went for £2,434,500 at auction last week. It is also not road legal.

Car enthusiast or not, the DB11 has the same instant allure. Sleek lines, aggressive in motion and beautiful from every angle. And with a V12 5.2-litre twin turbo engine, tuned to the sound of 600hp, it’ll shift: 0-62mph is executed in 3.9 seconds and the speedometer will rise all the way to the magic 200. As a result, it is the fastest DB production model in Aston Martin’s history.

This is music to many a petrolhead’s ears – in an age when we are getting more and more concerned about carbon footprint and the polar bear population, it is a relief to know that speed is not being quelled. But before the tree huggers out there have a heart attack and bay for the blood of those behind its creation, let us also highlight the fact that the DB11 is the cleanest and most fuel efficient DB ever produced.

The price? It starts as £154,900. You either have this sort of disposable cash or you don’t. I wish I did.

There are many fancy additions that enhance the DB11 as a driver’s car: increased wheelbase to improve weight distribution; revised suspension with adaptive damping; multiple driver-selectable dynamics; and new aerodynamics that enhance stability – to name a few.

The cockpit is a great cosmos in its own right – you’ll enjoy the interior as much as those you’re overtaking will enjoy the exterior. And for those of you who like to smack a small white ball into a hole at weekends, there’s a boot big enough to fit two bags of clubs. And there are two seats behind the driver that’ll actually accommodate real humans, so you can drag your lucky kids along as well to caddy for you.

So, to summarise: The DB11 has the beauty of Penelope Cruz; the speed of Usian Bolt; and the eco-friendliness of Bill Oddie. It sounds like the perfect car.
