Bond on Bond Street: Sir Roger Moore’s personal collection is going under the hammer

Highlights include a double-breasted dinner suit from the Eiffel Tower scene in A View to a Kill and an Omega special-edition 50 Years of 007 Seamaster

This October, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his inaugural appearance as James Bond, Bonhams will be hosting a 180-lot auction showcasing Sir Roger Moore’s own personal collection of Bond memorabilia, collectables and ephemera, offering die-hard 007 aficionados the chance to get a little closer to the feted superspy himself.

Moore, who’s perhaps best known as the most debonair and rakish of all the Bonds to date, played the character in a total of seven films, more than any other actor in the series, and his outings included Live and Let Die (1973), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985). During his stint, Moore became one of most celebrated style symbols of his generation – notably via his all-white ensemble in Live and Let Die and his signature safari leisure jacket that made an appearance in several films. Beyond Bond, he also laid claim to credits in TV shows such as The Saint (1962–1969) and The Persuaders (1971).

Some of the most noteworthy lots that’ll be on sale are the double-breasted mohair dinner suit worn for the Eiffel Tower scene in A View to a Kill, which is estimated at £20,000 to £30,000, as well as the Omega special-edition 50 Years of 007 Seamaster, which has a similar price range.

Another special piece of memorabilia is Moore’s Hollywood Walk of Fame plaque, which commemorated the placement of his star on 11 October, 2007. Moreover, although these might not garner as much money, fans will have the chance to acquire a pair of Moore’s Lamborghini skis, which are predicted to receive between £500 to £1,000, as well as an extensive collection of his silk ties and cravats.

Deborah, Geoffrey, and Christian Moore, the actor’s children, who are helping to facilitate the auction, stated: “We know how much our father meant to so many people across the globe. For many he was James Bond as well as The Saint, but he was also a kind and generous individual, as understandably proud of his charitable work as his acting career. We are delighted to be able to share his legacy with his many fans.”

Beyond the world of cinema, Moore undertook a role as a UNICEF ambassador, and, in respect of this title, his family will be making a donation to the organisation following the sale.

Set for 4th October, you can follow updates of this auction on Bonhams website.
