Pagani’s new Huayra Roadster gets extreme redesign

The ‘completely new’ drophead version is over £2 million of supercar

It’s been over two years since Pagani confirmed a roadster version of their highly-acclaimed Huayra supercar. And the wait is over, as the drop-top – which will be officially unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show – has finally been revealed.

As you can see, the wait was worth it. A full redesign sees what Pagani are calling a ‘completely new’ car, with a choice of carbon fibre or fabric lid, and weighing in at just 1280kg – a full 80kg lighter than the coupé.

Some elements remain the same, such as the pioneering active aerodynamic flaps of the original, but many features have been tweaked or replaced altogether. The engine, a reworked version of the coupé’s turbocharged 6.0-litre V12, manages to outshine its predecessor with a peak output of 754 horsepower.

The prevailing message, over all the claims that the Huayra is more technologically advanced than an F1 car, is one of fun. Five stability control modes – Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race and Off – promise a varied driving experience and the double act of all-aluminium suspension and braking by Brembo makes for Pagani’s finest – and funnest – ride yet.

But pump those 380mm carbon-ceramic brakes – unfortunately the limited run of 100 cars has already been allocated to a century of lucky buyers around the globe. And, even if they hadn’t been pre-sold, unless you’d had an eye-watering £2.32 million burning a hole in your pocket, you wouldn’t be in for a shot anyway…
