Introducing: the Longines Heritage Military Watch

The timepiece that's an incredible representation of the brand’s army background

Part of its new Heritage Collection, Longines’ ‘Heritage Military Watch’ name might be less than subtle reminder of the company’s military history, but luckily, the timepiece itself is an incredible representation of the brand’s army background.

The new Heritage Military Watch is inspired by a 1918 timepiece, used for the military of the day. Many of the original watches distinctive features have been carried over the the latest Heritage collection, including the beautifully massive Arabic numerals on the display – but not, however, the much loved oversized “onion” crown which is noticeably absent.

However, the latest version is a brand new watch by its own right with updated features, not least of all because it is much bigger, at 44mm, than the tiny wristwatch of the early 20th century which was designed for trench warfare. With an understated black dial replacing the old white one, the handset has a rugged simplicity that really brings back the traits of their older watches.

Recently, Longines’ experiment with recreating vintage-inspired military watches has proved very successful – including the Heritage Military CSOD and Heritage Military 1938 collections. By updating the echoes of their earlier collections Longines have been able to offer vintage looks without compromising on the modern manufacture – something which collectors seem to really appreciate. This Heritage Military Watch has a manually-wound calibre with a 42-hour power reserve.
