A gentleman’s guide to dressing for the festive season

Up your style credentials this Christmas by decking yourself with these stylish pieces...

The twinkling lights, cheery carols and trimmed trees can’t be ignored any longer – the festive season is well and truly upon us.

And, as you probably have various social events marked in your calendar on the countdown to December 25th, the perennial question of what to wear during the festive season will once more rear its head. So, before you resort to desperately sporting a Christmas jumper, Gentleman’s Journal have assembled a seasonal style guide to help you stay both festive and fashionable in the weeks ahead…

It can be tough figuring out what exactly to wear to your office’s Christmas drinks: you may just be heading to your local for a few pints, or, if the boss is feeling generous, off to a far swankier setting to enjoy some top-notch tipples. Either way, the last thing you want is to be underdressed – meet in the middle by opting for a stand-out timepiece, sophisticated roll-neck and stylishly-smart loafers.

Whether you’re sipping on eggnog or indulging in a warm mince pie, going to your nearest market and sampling fanciful festive treats is surely one of the best things about Christmas. Evade the cold but stay casual-cool whilst you’re wandering the stalls by wearing dark denim, luxe boots and outerwear pieces that boast accents of warm shearling.

The invitation promises fancy champagne and delectable canapés in an opulent setting; it seems that you’re set to attend an extravagant Christmas party, so your attire definitely needs to impress. If the event calls for black tie, do a slightly different take on the dress code by pairing the classic white shirt and formal lace-up shoes with a sumptuous velvet tuxedo jacket, especially one in an alternative colour – you’ll be sure to turn heads.

You’ll be fighting through swarms of crazed seasonal shoppers, waiting in awfully long queues and, unless you already have a well-thought out gift list, probably on your feet for double figure hours. Make present buying slightly less painful by sporting a comfortable outfit that doesn’t compromise on style; rely on cosy knitted accessories, chic sneakers and laid-back sweaters.
