Baume & Mercier welcome a new addition to their Clifton Collection family

The Clifton Perpetual Calendar is a red gold homage to astronomical observation

Each year, Baume & Mercier’s Clifton Collection release an exclusive timepiece.

The latest addition to this family is the Clifton Perpetual Calendar, a complex and fascinating homage to astronomical observation and the beauty of celestial mechanics.

Nestled within a stunning 18K red gold case, the subtle mechanism of the Perpetual Calendar negotiates the particularities of the Gregorian calendar with its 31, 30 or 28-day months and the periodic return of February 29th.

A complex mechanical challenge for the horologists at Baume & Mercier, this latest addition to the Clifton Collection is being touted as “a symbol of human ingenuity for tracking the earth and its moon as they orbit within the solar system.”

And, by indicating the date, the day of the week, the month and the phases of the moon, and by automatically keeping track of the variable length of each month and the cycle of leap years, this Clifton Perpetual Calendar establishes itself within the lineage of the most complicated date-tracking watches.

Ticking away at 21,600 vibrations/hour for a power reserve of 48 hours, the Perpetual Calendar’s finely finished calibre can be admired through the sapphire crystal back of the elegant 42 mm case.

On the face of the £19,000 watch, three subdials show the full extent of the timepiece’s calendar capabilities. The date appears at 3 o’clock, the days of the week at 9 o’clock while the months and the leap years appear at 12 o’clock.

Timelessly elegant, the Clifton Perpetual Calendar has a black alligator strap and a pin buckle in the same gold as the case.

The fifth member of the Clifton Collection, the Perpetual Calendar joins the 5-Minute Repeater, The 90 Hours Power Reserve, the Flying Tourbillion and then 8-day Power Reserve.
