5 wardrobe essentials that every gentlemen needs in 2015

If 2014 was the year that menswear blossomed, 2015 is set to be the year it blows up. As London Collections: Men showed us recently, men’s fashion weeks now easily challenge the more infamous and well-established female ones. Whilst we do tend to stay away from trends, we’d be fools to completely ignore these events so picking up on subtle menswear moves is something we’ve become accustomed to. Here are 5 wardrobe essentials that every gentleman needs in 2015.

FLIGHT JACKET

essential - TGJ.01

This is a garment that’s been on our wish-list for a while now. The flight jacket perfectly balances on the casual/formal border, especially when in a tailored form such as this Hardy Amies piece. The shearling collar provides outstanding warmth, whilst referencing the early bomber jackets of the 1940s, too.

LUXURY TRAINER

essnential - TGJ.02

It’s taken a while for us to come round to the idea of wearing trainers. With a minimalistic design and luxe materials such as suede and leather, this Lanvin pair are as stylish as they are comfortable.

UNSTRUCTURED BLAZER

essentials - TGJ.03

Every gentleman should own at least one blazer – preferably in a textured navy. A subtly patterned sport coat should be high up on the agenda too, however. Mix it up even further this year though, and purchase an unstructured version. With no lining or shoulder padding, an unstructured blazer is essentially a shell of a blazer, so it allows for more movement and it’s far more comfortable.

TAILORED TROUSERS

essential - TGJ.04

Again, smarten up your casual wear this year and swap out the chinos for a pair of tailored trousers. They are just as versatile as chinos but will make you stand out with their sharp silhouette and minimal break at the ankle (if tailored correctly).

BRIEFCASE

essential - TGJ.05

Men’s bags had a bit of a moment in 2014 with a number of styles becoming immensely popular including rucksacks, totes and holdalls. We want to bring back the classic briefcase for 2015 though, as there’s no other bag that looks quite as powerful or masculine.
