5 Unusual Places to Meet Women

If, like us, you’re getting bored of the monotonous Friday night bar scene where men and women come in their droves with the faint intention of meeting their next date, then it’s time to start thinking outside the box. Bars, pubs and clubs are better left for drunken hook-ups and nights out with friends rather than places to find a potential girlfriend. We’ve done some research and it appears that most women are just as bored of sleazy chat up lines and sugary cocktails as you are. “No one really expects to find the man of their dreams at midnight on a friday in an over-crowded club in Soho these days”, a single friend tells me over coffee this weekend, “so I’ve decided to stop looking and start doing more of the things that I love. If I meet Mr Right doing something I actually enjoy then it’s a win win situation and we’ll know that got something in common before we even begin dating.” And so it seems that more women are thinking with this logic nowadays than ever before, maybe it’s time you jump on the bandwagon and take a look at 5 of these unusual places to meet women.

1. WAITING IN LINE

One of my favourite ‘Meet-Cutes’ as Hollywood calls it, was from a friend of mine who met her current boyfriend over 6 years ago after she accidentally hit him in the head with her skis whilst queuing for a ski-lift. We’re not suggesting that you start clubbing women over the head in waiting lines, but there’s definitely something to be said for meeting women in queues. If you’re both queuing for the same thing anyway then there’s at least one thing you’ve got in common already and obvious conversation starter to boot.

2. BOOT CAMPS/RUNNING CLUBS

The gym has always been a great pick-up joint, but you knew that already. The only problem is that being in an enclosed space surrounded by other sweaty people panting on their exercise bikes doesn’t exactly scream romance. Outdoor group fitness clubs on the other hand are a whole lot more attractive. Join one of these clubs and start building up relationships within the group, invite someone who takes your fancy to join you for a healthy juice after one such work-out and let the relationship unfold.

3. FOOD FAIRS

We believe that sharing a love of the same food is always a good basis upon which to start relationship, so it makes sense that markets and food-fairs are going to offer a wealth of like-minded individuals the opportunity to meet. Head to your local market on a Saturday morning or look out for food events taking place and try your luck over freshly baked bread and artisan food boxes.

4. AFTER WORK CLASSES

Photography, life-drawing, foreign languages… the opportunities are endless. Whatever it is that you’ve decided to take up this year make sure you keep your eyes and heart open, as well as your improving your mind you never know who you might walk through that door.

5. OPEN-MIC NIGHTS/COMEDY SHOWS

Big gigs and music festivals might seem like a great place to meet the opposite sex, but over deafening music and warm beers the chances are you’ll end up spending the evening with the friends you arrived with. The more intimate a venue however, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to start chatting someone up who takes your fancy. If your local pub holds live music nights once a week then start going more regularly, listen to some good music and who knows who you might end up chatting to when you go to buy your next round?
