5 people who work harder than you

Becoming a success is the easy part, it’s staying on top that’s the real battle. That’s why we’ve trawled through the lists of the top dogs and come up with a list of 5 people who work harder than you ever thought possible.

The Queen

THE QUEEN - tgh.03

She’s been at the helm of the world’s foremost family firm for just over 60 years but throughout her reign, her working day has remained remarkably unchanged. After checking the daily papers she personally examines a cross section of the 200-300 letters that she recieves whilst her ladies-in-waiting reply according to her wishes. Then, after being briefed on offical government business by her private secretary whilst reading the days state papers ready for feedback to government ministers. In the afternoon she’ll attend a series of offical engagements at schools, hospitals or charitable foundations before returning to Buckingham Palace to read over a report of the days events in Parliament before hosting an official reception.

Jamie Dimon

DIMON - TGJ.01

No-one in the last decade has had more of an impact on the financial world than Mr. Dimon. As JP Morgan’s President Chairman and CEO with the largest salary on Wall Street for a top executive ($20 million a year), one would assume Dimon’s life is one of demagogic board meetings and extravagant lunches with top bank directors. But you couldn’t be more wrong. Dimon spends his week in constant meetings with clients, investors, managers and politicans as well as keeping an omniscient eye on the flow of the stock market. But instead of weekends in the Hamptons, he is rumoured to pour over company records of trading transactions, data analysis and the minutes of meetings – all ready for the grilling of his board on Monday mornings.

Howard Schultz

SCHUKZ

Businesses are often a reflection of their senior leadership, so its apt that Starbucks’ CEO is a self-confessed caffeine addict. Reputedly starting his working day at 6 am, his day is spent in meetings with senior managers and on visits to many of the 5,500 coffee-houses based in over 50 countries. The work obsessed Schultz has even been known to send mass weekend emails to his baristas about issues within the company and holds meetings on Sunday nights in order to prepare for the week ahead.

Tim Cook

TOOM COOK - TGJ.01

For most, the prospect of receiving an email from your employer at 4.30am seems an alien one. However, if you’re an Apple employee it’s an almost daily occurrence. Steve Jobs’s successor has apparently survived the last decade living off a diet of caffeine, energy bars and sandwiches whilst eschewing corporate lunches and extravagance. He is always the first to arrive and the last to leave the companies’ California HQ and refuses to take days off, even sending e-mails on Christmas Day. Now that’s commitment.

Sir Ben Ainslie

AINSLIE - TGJ.04

He’s the most successful British sailor since Nelson having won Olympic Golds in Sydney, Athens, Bejing and London. As a creature of habit, the master tactician immerses himself in a world of methodical preparation and training. His day always starts before dawn with several hours of circuit training before spending an exhausting afternoon out on the water with his coach David Howlett. As if that wasn’t enough he then returns to the gym for four hours each evening before having a muscle massage to recover. You’ll need more than latte and a croissant to survive Sir Ben’s working day.
